This hike follows what hopes to be just the beginning of the Humber Valley Heritage Trail, a trail that currently starts just north of Bolton and runs to the Caledon Trailway near Palgrave.

I started this hike at the south trailhead located at the intersection of Hwy 50 and Columbia Way. There is parking on the east side of Hwy 50 by the sports field. The trailhead itself is well marked on the west side of the road. The trail begins by running along side he road maintenance yard to the top of the Humber valley, then descends into the valley, followed by a quick ascent back up. The trail remains along side the valley as it crosses Duffy's Lane, continuing through the Humber valley lands, skirting along side farmer's fields, crossing Castlederg Sideroad, then exiting to Duffy's Lane again, this time north of Castlederg Sideroad. The trail then follows Duffy's Lane to just north of Old Church Road, when it meets the Albion Hills Conservation Area. It exits the conservation area at the Caledon Trailway just east of Humber Station Road.

There is roadside parking at each spot the trail crosses or meets a road; waypoints are captured for each of these locations.

In order to make a loop out of this hike I walked south on Humber Station Road from the trail terminus at the Caledon Trailway to Castlederg Sideroad, then east on Castlederg Sideroad to rejoin the trail on the east side of the river bridge. If you want to shorten the hike even more you could continue on Castlederg Sideroad to Duffy's Lane, then follow Duffy's Lane south to where the trail crosses this road. On the cool Sunday morning that I did this hike there was very little traffic on any of the road portions of this hike, certainly not enough to be bothersome.

Trailmaps

This map shows the breadcrumb trail captured by my GPS. The displayed waypoint is the starting point for the hike. The color track lines show the hike segments:

The blue line is the Humber Valley Heritage Trail route.

The yellow line is the route I followed to loop back, mostly by following Humber Station Rd., south.

Using ExpertGPS or Panterra you can assemble these route segments into the desired hike.

The gpx file also contains waypoints marking the beginning and ending of trails as well as major trail features and intersections.
